A pedestrian was struck and killed at Chapman Avenue and Esplanade Street, police said Tuesday.
Lopez Gomez Gustavo, 38, of Orange was pronounced dead at the scene after a truck heading east on Chapman Avenue struck him shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, Officer Jerry Burgess said. Witnesses saw Gustavo in the crosswalk before he was hit, Burgess said. The truck driver had a green light and was not cited, he said.
It was the second pedestrian fatality in the city in two weeks. Last week, a 6-year-old boy on his way to school also was struck and killed at a crosswalk. Jonathan Nicasio of Orange was accompanied by his mother, Mirna Pena, who was a few steps behind him when the accident occurred.
