From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Guerrilla leader Jonas Savimbi said he will sign a U.N.-brokered peace deal if the government ends a siege of his battered headquarters. The treaty is expected to lead to a power-sharing deal between the government and UNITA, the armed opposition led by Savimbi. Government forces, mistrustful of the rebels, have continued to bombard Huambo, about 330 miles southeast of Luanda.
