A respiratory care practitioner at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center has been placed on five years’ probation by the state Respiratory Care Examining Committee after being convicted of three drug- and alcohol-related offenses.
Gary S. Richard, 40, who received his license to practice in 1986, has been ordered by the committee to submit to random drug and alcohol testing, attend a rehabilitation program and comply with the committee’s probation surveillance program or risk losing his license.
Richard was convicted of marijuana-related violations in 1984 and 1992. In 1991, he was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Respiratory care practitioners help treat patients with asthma, emphysema and other diseases, although treatments are prescribed by physicians.
