COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Wins, Sets Volleyball Record

The Golden West women’s volleyball team set a national community college record Wednesday as it extended its conference record streak to 100 matches, with a 15-7, 15-5, 15-10 victory over host Rancho Santiago.
Becca Foltz led the Rustlers (17-2, 10-0) with 15 kills. Teammates Vanessa Dahl and Jessica Redding each added 10.
Golden West had shared the record for most consecutive conference victories with Eastern Arizona Community College, which had its streak of 99 in a row ended last year.
The streak started in 1986 in the South Coast Conference. Golden West moved to the Orange Empire Conference in 1988, and has compiled an 88-0 record in league play.
Yuki Inagaki led the Dons (8-7, 4-6) with 12 kills.
In other Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball matches:
Fullerton 3, Cypress 1--Kim Degener had 23 kills to lead Fullerton (6-11, 3-8). Teammate Christina Keleman added 13 in the 15-1, 15-12, 8-15, 15-15 victory.
Orange Coast 3, Saddleback 1--With the match tied, 1-1, Orange Coast (11-8, 7-2) battled back from a 14-6 deficit in the third game to win, 17-15, and then went on to win the match, 15-9, 10-15, 17-15, 15-11.
In South Coast Conference wrestling:
Rancho Santiago 39, Victor Valley 6--Jason Sparks pinned his heavyweight opponent in 1 minute 15 seconds for host Rancho Santiago.
