UC San Diego Easily Handles Chapman

UC San Diego, the third-ranked women’s volleyball team in NCAA Division III, defeated Chapman, 15-1, 15-5, 15-6, in the first round of the Division III Western Regional Playoffs Friday at San Diego.

Madelyn Ripken had 10 kills for the Tritons (26-6), who advance to the regional final tonight against Cal Lutheran.

Shawna Parkinson had 10 kills for the Panthers (23-9).

It was Chapman’s first postseason volleyball appearance since 1990 and first Division III playoff appearance in any sport.
