OUTLOOK
Although Katella and Cypress are considered the favorites, league coaches figure El Dorado, Century and Kennedy could all make it interesting. “It’s a very tough league,” Tivenan said. “There could be a very good team in fourth or fifth place when January comes around.” Although El Dorado tied for fifth last season, a year of experience should help it this season. Miller is a top-flight point guard who averaged 11.5 points last season. Simonsen averaged 6.3 points last season and is in his third year on the varsity. Sammons is the team’s top post player and is quick around the basket. “He plays bigger than he is,” Tivenan said. Ayer, a 6-5 center, could be one of the county’s top sophomores, Tivenan said. “He’s our second-best three-point shooter with good perimeter skills. He’s learning to play inside.” Sweet, the junior varsity MVP, Kasper and Drennan, the freshman MVP, will also play key roles.
