Ten wrestlers from Moorpark College, which traditionally has one of the finest teams in the state, will participate Sunday in the Southern California regional tournament at Bakersfield College.
They will try to qualify for the state championships scheduled for Dec. 2-3 at Rio Hondo College in Whittier. The top eight individual finishers in each weight division advance to the state tournament, where the team champion is determined by the points garnered by individuals.
Among the leading Moorpark wrestlers are John Jimenez at 134 pounds and Tim Bonebright at 142 pounds. Jimenez is 22-10 and Bonebright is 20-9. Others include Jeremy Pratt (14-9) at 167 pounds, Dan Burdis (14-9) at 177 pounds, Jason Lewis (13-9) at 190 pounds and Kyle Plummer (11-5) at 158 pounds.
The Raiders (10-1-1) won the Western State Conference title with a 5-0 record for their 17th conference championship, all under Coach John Keever. They finished fifth in the state last year.
