ROUNDUP : Nevada Defeats Northridge in Women’s Basketball, 74-71

Nevada scored 14 points in overtime to defeat the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team, 74-71 in a nonconference opener Saturday night before 675 at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno.
Northridge guard Shannon Crouse led all scorers with 25 points. Maureen Batiste added 11.
Noelle Fable came off the bench to score 15 points for the Wolf Pack. Teammates Carissa Meyer and Amy Branch added 14 and 12 points.
The Matadors shot 52% from the field in the first half and took a 35-34 lead into halftime. After intermission, however, they went cold, shooting only 29%.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cal Lutheran 101, UC Santa Cruz 62--Derrick Clark scored 23 points as the undefeated Kingsmen (3-0) won their home opener. Mark Heerema added 12 points and Mike Fenton and Dave Ulloa each had 10.
The Master’s 88, Fresno Pacific 75--Leo Gorauskas scored 29 points to lead the Mustangs (3-2) to a nonconference victory at home.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Taft 4, Poly 1--Senior midfielder Oscar Hernandez scored three second-half goals to lead the Toreadors (2-0-1) in the championship game of their own tournament.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Kennedy 58, Marshall 34--Tami Ross had 20 points and a school-record 30 rebounds for the Golden Cougars (1-0) in a first-round game of the Washington Prep tournament at Washington High. Tamaya Morris added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ventura 72, Sequoias 69--Julie Hardy scored 20 points and made a three-point shot with two seconds left to give visiting Ventura (3-1) a nonconference victory.
Former Kennedy High standout Shaneya Harris had 34 points and 14 rebounds for Sequoias (6-1).
