Georges Bank Fishing Closure Extended: Thousands of miles of historically rich fishing grounds off New England will be closed for an additional three months in an effort to restore cod, haddock and flounder stocks, a federal official said. The Commerce Department’s emergency order closing parts of Georges Bank and southern New England fishing grounds had been set to expire March 12. “We intend to extend it” for three more months, said Assistant Commerce Secretary Douglas K. Hall.
