Tokos Medical Plans 25-30 Layoffs

Tokos Medical Corp., a struggling Santa Ana provider of maternal and newborn managed-care services, has issued layoff notices to 25 to 30 workers as part of a broader cost-cutting plan.
Nicholas A. Mione, Tokos’ chief financial officer, said the layoffs--which represent about 10% of the company’s home office staff--will take effect in the first half of the year.
Mione declined to say whether additional layoffs were planned.
Mione said the staff cutbacks as well as other cost-saving measures, which he declined to discuss, were aimed at improving company efficiencies in the face of cost-cutting pressures in the managed-care industry.
For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Tokos lost $3.4 million on revenue of $76.7 million.
