Largemouth bass have been in the spotlight for the last few weeks, but at Pyramid Lake the smallmouth bass are stealing the show.
Well, not quite, but the smaller bass are at least sharing it at the Los Angeles County reservoir, which is one of only a few smallmouth fisheries in the Southland.
Brian Motis, Steve Rosenbloom and Chris Conigio, all of Los Angeles, caught and released about 25 smallmouth and largemouth bass totaling 75 pounds.
“The fish are moving up to spawn,” said Heather DeBaets, a spokeswoman at the lake. “I think most people are fishing for largemouth and can’t help catching the smallmouth.”
