SHANE ANDERSON
La Reina, 5-11, Senior, Forward
The best athlete in school, Anderson is a standout volleyball player and an all-state softball player who has signed with Stanford. In basketball, the three-year starter averaged 16.5 points and 12 rebounds, helping a mediocre team (10-12) earn a postseason berth.
EMBER BROWN
Ventura, 5-8, Senior, Forward
Brown, a three-time all-county selection who has signed with Long Beach State, is Ventura’s all-time scoring leader with 1,420 points. She averaged 16.4 points and 5.7 rebounds this season and holds school scoring records for a season (523) and a game (43).
EBONI CONLEY
Buena, 5-8, Junior, Guard
A repeat all-county selection, she led the Bulldogs in assists (5.8) and steals (4.8) this season. She also averaged 12.3 points, and made 46% of her field-goal and 67% of her free throws. Coach Joe Vaughan predicts a Division I college future for her.
TAWNEE COOPER
Simi Valley, 5-9, Junior, Forward
For the second consecutive season, Cooper, a repeat selection, led the county in scoring. The transfer from Royal averaged 21.5 points and her 78.7% mark from the free-throw line is a Simi Valley record. She also helped the Pioneers set the school season scoring record.
NICOLE GREATHOUSE
Buena, 6-1, Sophomore, Center
An agile player around the basket, Greathouse figures to dominate area post players for the rest of her career at Buena. In her second varsity season, she led the Bulldogs in scoring (12.6), rebounds (9.3) and blocked shots with 43 in 26 games.
BRIANNA KANONGATA’A
Rio Mesa, 5-11, Senior, Forward
A four-year starter, Kanongata’a averaged 14.9 points and 7.8 rebounds this season. She is adept with either hand near the basket and can surprise defenders with a proficient outside shot. She has received attention from Utah and San Diego State.
KARA McKEOWN
Newbury Park, 6-1, Senior, Center
A team co-captain and a three-year starter, McKeown was a tenacious rebounder for the state finalist Panthers. She averaged 11.2 rebounds and 10.8 points. Still, her best sport is volleyball. She will play next season at St. Mary’s on a full scholarship.
KARA NEWMAN
Buena, 5-10, Senior, Forward
Coach Joe Vaughan calls Newman “maybe the best defensive player to come out of the program.” That’s high praise from the state’s most successful high school girls’ coach. Newman, one of three Bulldogs on the all-county team, averaged 7.6 points, 3.6 steals.
JANN THORPE
Newbury Park, 5-11, Senior, Forward
Coach Nori Parvin calls Thorpe the team’s most surprising player, saying she improved dramatically in the off-season. Thorpe averaged 14.4 points and 8.2 rebounds this season. A three-year starter, she helped Newbury Park to a 75-14 record since the 1992-93 season.
JULIE WASTELL
Newbury Park, 5-7, Senior, Guard
One of three Newbury Park players on the all-county team and a repeat selection, Wastell reflected the team temperament: calm and composed. Running the offense as point guard, she averaged 11.8 points, 5.2 assists and 3.8 steals.
