SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND by Dennis McFarland (Ivy: $6.99; 260 pp.). In this new novel, the author of “The Music Room” continues to explore how attempting to hide the past can affect the present. Photojournalist Francis Brimm expects to find peace when he retires to the small Florida town where his older sister Muriel has always lived. But when he stumbles onto the remains of a double murder, he inadvertently triggers a series of discoveries about his family, and learns that the stay-at-home, spinsterish Muriel may have led a more interesting life than her peripatetic brother.
