Special Devices Posts Profit of $1.51 Million for Quarter

Special Devices Inc., a producer of pyrotechnic devices that help to inflate automotive airbags and to activate military crew escape systems, nearly doubled its earnings during the second quarter ended April 30 compared to a year earlier.
The Newhall-based manufacturer reported second-quarter earnings of $1.51 million, up from $761,000 in the same three-month period the prior year. Revenues increased 64%, to $25.1 million from $15.3 million a year earlier.
The quarterly results brought the company’s net income for the fiscal year to $2.55 million, compared to $1.22 million during the first six months of last year. The company had six-month sales of $47.24 million, up from $27.57 million a year earlier.
