EVERYWHERE

Sow: Marigolds and sunflowers; also green onions and squashes/pumpkins/ gourds (except in the low desert); corn, melons/watermelons, corn (except in the deserts).

Plant: Green garlic, perennial herbs . Also all peppers (except in the desert).

Harvest: Asian greens, beets, chard, collards/kale, perennial herbs, leeks, green onions, shallot greens. Also broccoli, carrots, radishes, salad greens, violas (except in the low desert).

COASTAL CLIMATES

Sow: Asian greens, all beans but favas, beets, celeriac/leaf celery, chard, cucumbers, annual herbs, New Zealand spinach, green onions, peas for shoots, radishes, salad greens.

Plant: Tomatillos/tomatoes.

Harvest: Asparagus, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, green garlic, all peas, potatoes, spinach, strawberries.

LOW DESERT

Sow: Okra.

Harvest: Common/cowpeas/ horticultural beans, cucumbers, eggplant, melons/watermelons, okra, all peppers, potatoes, summer squash, strawberries, sunflowers, tomatillos/tomatoes.

HIGH DESERT

Sow: Cucumbers, okra.

Harvest: All the low desert except tomatillos/tomatoes plus Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celeriac/leaf celery, corn, all peas, spinach, turnips.

INTERIOR CLIMATES

(Where fuchsias won’t grow)

Sow: Cowpeas/lima beans, mizuna.

Plant: Tomatillos/tomatoes.

Harvest: Asparagus, common/cowpeas/horticultural beans, cabbage, leaf celery, corn, onions, potatoes.

(Where fuchsias grow fairly well)

Sow: All beans but favas, beets, carrots, green onions, salad greens.

Plant: Tomatillos/tomatoes.

Harvest: All of non-fuchsia interior except leaf celery, plus cauliflower, all peas, salsify/scorzonera, spinach.

MOUNTAINS

Sow for transplanting: Annual herbs, broccoli, leaf celery; also broccoli (except at 6,000 feet and lower).

Sow under cover: Asian greens, all beans but favas, beets, cabbage, carrots, chard, cucumbers, nasturtiums, New Zealand spinach, onion family, all peas, radishes, salad greens, salsify/scorzonera, spinach, turnips; also peas (except below 6,000 feet) and peanuts (except above 6,000 feet).

Plant under cover: Cucumbers, eggplant, okra, potatoes, tomatillos/tomatoes.

Harvest: Turnips.

KEY

When seeds can be sown, seedlings of the same crop can be planted. All crops can be grown in containers.
