Debates and discussions about affirmative action dominate the topics on television’s public-affairs shows this weekend.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson and Gov. Pete Wilson will square off on two programs Sunday in the wake of the University of California’s decision Thursday to drop race-based preferences in admissions and hiring policies.
They’ll appear first on “This Week With David Brinkley,” at 11:30 a.m. Sunday (7)(3)(10)(42), along with Deval Patrick, assistant attorney general for civil rights. Then Wilson and Jackson will appear on “Late Edition” at 2 p.m., CNN.
Affirmative action also will be the topic on Jackson’s own show, “Both Sides With Jesse Jackson,” at 9:30 a.m. Sunday on CNN. His guests will include Rep. Charles Canady (R-Fla.), Rep. Martin Hoke (R-Ohio) and Alexis Herman, White House director of public liaison.
Other shows weighing in on the topic include “To the Contrary,” 1 p.m. today (28), and “Bob Navarro’s Journal,” 9:30 a.m. Sunday (2).
