A cement truck overturned in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Crown Valley Parkway early Friday, injuring the driver, blocking part of the freeway for more than seven hours and backing up traffic for miles, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to the CHP, the fully loaded cement truck was going about 50 m.p.h. in the slow lane at 2:10 a.m. when the driver noticed a car behind him approaching at high speed.
The driver of the cement truck, who was not identified, veered sharply to the right and lost control. The truck crossed the west shoulder of the freeway and overturned onto its side. Three lanes of traffic were blocked until 9:30 a.m., a CHP spokeswoman said.
The driver was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
