Merrill Lynch & Co., the nation’s biggest securities firm, said its fourth-quarter profit soared 88% amid booming revenue from investment fees, securities trading and investment banking.
Merrill Lynch’s profit for the three months ended Dec. 31 rose to $303 million, or $1.49 a share, from $162 million, or 76 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Analysts predicted per-share earnings of between $1.41 and $1.58.
