Am I Covered?
Insuring a trip can be complicated. Here are nine questions consumers can ask when shopping for travel insurance.
Before you leave:
1. Should I cover the full trip or just a portion of the costs?
2. Can I get a refund if I become ill and have to cancel my trip 24 hours before I’m scheduled to depart.?
3. What if something happens to me on the way to the airport and I miss my flight?
On the road:
4. What if my flight is canceled because of bad weather and I am unable to meet up with my tour or cruise?
5. What happens if a traveling companion who has a preexisting condition, such as asthma, suffers an attack that forces both of us to come home?
6. I’ve signed up for rock-climbing lessons during my trip; am I covered if I’m injured during class?
7. If the airline or cruise line I’m traveling on declares bankruptcy, will I get my money back? How will I get home?
8. Does the company provide emergency assistance around the clock?
Homeward-bound:
9. Will I be covered if my baggage is stolen or disappears?
10. What if one of my newly purchased souvenirs is broken on the trip home?
