After her senior season at Newport Harbor High, Read couldn’t distance herself from swimming fast enough. She was burned out and upset she didn’t have a more successful season. But OCC Coach Jon Rathfelder saw her potential and was able to talk her into returning to the pool. The results have been impressive. Read was the only double-event winner for Orange Coast at the state meet last weekend at Long Beach State. She won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.32 Saturday. Her first state title came Friday in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.23).
