Re the Pencil Guy:
Please explain to Valerie C. Barnett (Letters, May 5) that there is no skulduggery being brewed by Calendar’s editors. The head bone merely depicts the metaphoric symbolism associated with the quality of some of the letters received.
Having said that, a new icon would be nice.

Don Gold and Robert Kiviat’s letter (May 5) contains an astounding charge that “no credible scientist, researcher or effects wizard has presented any real evidence to refute the alien footage” in their “Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction?” video.
The noted magazine Skeptical Inquirer, which concentrates on researching and exposing instances of science fraud, has published lengthy, informed commentaries on it.

Regarding Jennie Douglas’ May 5 letter denigrating the talents of the Ritz Brothers:
As the author of a forthcoming authorized biography on the trio, I would like to submit just a partial list of the names of people who told me how much they appreciated the Ritzes’ comedy and particularly Harry Ritz: Steve Allen, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, George Carlin, Dick Cavett, Larry Gelbart, Pauline Kael, Norman Lear, Jerry Lewis, Marcel Marceau, George Schlatter and Neil Simon.
