Times Launches News ‘Channel’: The multichannel news-delivery service developed by PointCast Inc. allows users to “sign in” with a Southern California area code to receive news from the Los Angeles Times and five other major U.S. newspapers using version 1.0 of the PointCast Network software. Headlines from the newspapers are broadcast directly to the user’s computer screen. PointCast’s technology automatically begins running headlines when a computer is not in use, replacing a screen saver. To obtain the full story, the user clicks on the headline.
