Seagate to Pay $9.6-Million Tax Liability: The Scotts Valley, Calif.-based maker of computer disk drives settled a dispute with the Internal Revenue Service over back taxes and interest related to its recently acquired company, Conner Peripherals Inc. Seagate Technology Inc. took over the San Jose-based firm in February, making the Silicon Valley enterprise the world’s largest independent disk-drive maker. Seagate said most of the payment relates to the allocation of income between Conner and its foreign manufacturing units. Under the agreement, Conner will pay additional taxes of about $5.3 million for the years 1989 and 1990, plus accrued interest of about $4.3 million as of April 30.
