Schools / Education news : ‘Penny Challenge’ Helps CHOC, Charities
- Share via
Students attending the after-school programs at C. Fred Schroeder Elementary and Ada E. Clegg Elementary donated $400 this month to local pediatric hospitals and charities.
At the beginning of the school year, students in the two programs challenged each other to see which school could collect the most money--in pennies--by spring.
Clegg students won the “penny challenge.” Collectively, the students raised $400.
The students were given a list of charities, and chose the Diabetes Research Education Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Orange County Foundation and the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.
In honor of the donations to Children’s Hospital, the schools’ names will be engraved on a brick plaque outside the hospital, officials said.
