Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : A First: Internet Helps FBI Catch a Fugitive

For the first time, the FBI has nabbed one of its most wanted fugitives thanks to the Internet. Leslie Isben Rogge, who had been on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list for six years, surrendered to U.S. authorities in Guatemala after his picture was seen on the Internet, the FBI said. His picture had been placed on the FBI’s home page and was spotted by someone in Guatemala, who had seen Rogge and alerted authorities. Guatemalan police launched a manhunt and Rogge, “feeling the intense pressure,” turned himself in at the U.S. Embassy, the FBI said. Rogge, 56, had escaped from federal custody in Idaho in 1985 after a conviction for armed robbery.
