Mistrial in Case of Milk Touted as Cancer Cure

ST. JAMES, Minn. — A second jury was unable to reach a verdict in the trial of a dairy farmer accused of touting his cows’ milk as a cure for cancer and other diseases.
Judge Terry Dempsey declared a mistrial Monday in the case against Herb Saunders, 67, accused of practicing medicine without a license.
Prosecutors claimed customers at Saunders’ farm would allow samples of their blood to be injected into cows, a process Saunders claimed would produce antibodies in the colostrum, a cow’s first milk after giving birth. He sold bottles of the milk for $35 each.
