ANAHEIM — The Bullfrogs traded defenseman Daniel Shank to the Orlando RollerGators Wednesday for the rights to Glen Stewart, a standout in the East Coast Hockey League.
Anaheim also gets the rights to a player to be named and future considerations for parting with Shank, an enforcer in Roller Hockey International last season.
Stewart led the ECHL with 48 goals at Erie (Pa.) Panthers. Bullfrog Coach Grant Sonier, who coached the ECHL’s Huntington (W.Va.) Blizzard was impressed with Stewart.
“He is a fierce competitor,” Sonier said. “He has a great scoring touch, but he’s also good on defense and he really works hard.”
The Bullfrogs also announced that one of their top draft picks, Sean O’Brien, and veteran defenseman Darren Banks, will not arrive in California in time to play in the team’s opener June 1 against San Diego at the Pond.
O’Brien has been granted time to remain in Florida where his girlfriend’s father remains in intensive care after an automobile accident. Banks is still playing with the Las Vegas Thunder in the International Hockey League playoffs.
