Marking its 23rd year of celebrating Greek culture, the annual Valley Greek Festival begins Saturday in Northridge.
Sponsored by St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, the three-day event will feature authentic cuisine, exhibits and different live music each day, said staff member Terry Rizzo. Visitors will be able to learn traditional Greek dances.
Created as a small showcase of Greek culture more than two decades ago, the festival now attracts approximately 50,000 visitors annually, Rizzo said.
Admission is free, but proceeds from food sales and a drawing for a Greek vacation will be used to repair earthquake damage to the church and an adjacent private school owned by St. Nicholas.
What’s the best part of the festival? “The food,” Rizzo said.
The festival runs from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday on the church grounds, 9501 Balboa Blvd. in Northridge.
