SYLMAR — A 52-year-old Newhall man was killed Monday after the car he was driving was hit by a pickup truck at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Highway, south of Santa Clarita, police said.
Emir Ozuturk was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife and daughter, who were passengers in the car, were injured. Seyda Ozuturk, 43, suffered two fractured ribs, and Pune Ozuturk, 21, had cuts on her left cheek and arm. Both women were taken to Providence Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where Seyda Ozuturk was listed in stable condition. Pune Ozuturk was treated and released, hospital officials said.
Police said Emir Ozuturk was driving north on Foothill Boulevard and was crossing the intersection at Sierra Highway when a white pickup truck, traveling east, slammed into the driver’s side.
Police said they were uncertain whether Ozuturk stopped at a stop sign at Foothill Boulevard. There is no stop sign for drivers traveling on Sierra Highway.
The driver of the pickup truck, Joey Berman, 30, of Encino, was not charged and received no injuries, police said.
