Veronica Lopez
Canyon, Junior
Softball/Pitcher
Canyon Coach Lance Eddy didn’t pitch Lopez in every game early in the season, so she would be fresh for league and the playoffs, and the strategy is working very well. In the first round of the Division I playoffs, Lopez pitched an 18-inning shutout to beat El Dorado, 1-0. Last week, she pitched a two-hitter and gave up only an unearned run in a 7-1 victory over Trabuco Hills and a six-hitter in a 1-0 victory over third-seeded Newbury Park. She didn’t have her best stuff against Newbury Park, but toughened with runners on base. Four of her eight strikeouts came with runners in scoring position. She has given up one earned run in 72 innings.
