A trust fund was established Tuesday to help pay for the burial of two Echo Park toddlers who were fatally injured Friday when a van hit a car, causing it to spin out of control and strike them.
Luisa Cornejo, 2 1/2, and Edwin Camacho, 3, died within hours of the accident that occurred at Alvarado and Montana streets, officials said.
The driver of the van, Vincent Perez, 44, was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after he surrendered to police at the scene about 45 minutes after the accident, police said.
Members of the two families, who cannot afford to bury the children, “need whatever support the community can provide,” said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Herman Kaskowitz.
Donations can be sent to Cornejo/Camacho Families Fund, Bank of America, Attention: Dora, 1572 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles 90026.
