Quiksilver Inc.: The Costa Mesa designer and distributor of casual clothing and sportswear said net income for the second quarter rose 22% to $4.4 million, or 61 cents a share, from $3.6 million, or 52 cents a share, for the corresponding period last year. Sales for the quarter ended April 30 were up 15% to $54.5 million from $47.3 million. Net income for the first half increased 25% to $6.5 million, or 91 cents a share, from $5.2 million, or 74 cents a share, for the like six months a year ago. Sales gained 17% to $95 million from $81 million.
