California GOP Delegates

Pro-life supporters in the California Republican Party are alive and well except in Gov. Pete Wilson’s handpicked delegation to the Republican National Convention in San Diego this August (“State’s GOP Delegates Oppose Abortion Plank,” June 30).
Out of 165 delegates (largest delegation in the country) only a handful support the national Republican plank on abortion. This delegation certainly does not represent the California Republican Party, which has repeatedly adopted a pro-life plank at its state conventions.
How can the Wilson selection committee claim they ran a fair and open process? The delegation includes many who are not even California Republican Party members. Few are elected county Central Committee members or state Central Committee members appointed by our elected legislators, most of whom are pro-life themselves. Any delegation which gives pro-abortion Christine Todd Whitman a 65% favorable rating is neither pro-life nor conservative. This delegation should be revised to reflect the California Republican Party.
