‘A Time to Kill’ Tops ‘ID4’ Again

Moviegoing was down over the same weekend last year, thanks to the final days of the Olympics. For the second week in a row, the courtroom drama “A Time to Kill,” based on the best-selling John Grisham novel, topped “Independence Day” for first place, while the TriStar family film “Matilda,” based on the Roald Dahl novel, reached its target audience of young girls--and then some. Among limited-release fare, “Trainspotting” averaged a strong $7,342 on 191 screens, bringing its U.S. total to $1.4 million.
