The Westlake-Royal Oak American Legion team fell short of advancing to the Western Regional playoffs Monday, losing, 3-1, to Ontario in the state playoffs in Yountville.
Westlake-Royal Oak (30-5-1) beat Elk Grove, 8-5, earlier Monday to advance in the double-elimination tournament.
Against Ontario, Westlake-Royal Oak had runners at second and third with none out in the top of the ninth, but Ontario pitcher Jeff Verplanke struck out Troy Soukup and Ryan Carl and induced a groundout from Scott Dragicevich, ending the game.
