Cisco Systems said its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings rose 78%, more than expected, on strong demand for its computer network equipment.
Its net income for the three months ended July 28 rose to $276.6 million, or 41 cents a share, from $143.7 million, or 51 cents, a year earlier. Included in the results for the latest quarter is Stratacom Corp., a networking vendor that Cisco bought last month, and $15.5 million in pretax expenses for the acquisition. Excluding Stratcom, Cisco had pro forma net of $266.9 million, or 45 cents. Wall Street expected the San Jose-based computer systems company to earn 40 cents a share.
