Chiquita Frupac Inc., a Philadelphia-based company that markets fruit to grocery stores around the country, has signed a contract to market avocados grown on the Irvine Co.’s 1,300-acre avocado grove in northern Irvine. Chiquita Frupac, which has an office in Lake Forest, will pack the avocados in a packing plant the Irvine Co. owns on Jeffrey Road in Irvine.
Chiquita Frupac also announced that it is taking over packing and marketing of avocados grown by Sierra Pacific Farms to market avocados that the Temecula-based company grows on 1,800 acres scattered throughout Southern California. Those avocados also will be packed at the Irvine Co. facility.
