Candidate Perot

I read the Aug. 20 editorial regarding the meaning of Ross Perot’s entry to the presidental race. A very interesting concept: A vote for Perot is a vote for Bill Clinton.
Is it possible that Perot in reality is a wolf in sheep’s clothing who has pulled the wool over the eyes of the American voter? I find it difficult to accept any other explanation because if Perot embraces the more conservative philosophy of the political spectrum rather than the more liberal, then why is he ensuring the reelection of Clinton?

* I find it rather annoying that Perot has accepted the $29.2 million in federal matching funds (Aug. 19) after he very loudly complained about the size of the national debt. If he, Clinton and Bob Dole wish to show that they are serious about reducing the debt, they should refuse to accept these funds.

* Now that Perot and his party have officially tossed their hats into the ring, it seems only fitting that they adopt an animal mascot such as the Democrats’ venerable donkey or the GOP’s wonderful elephant.
I suggest a cute and furry East African critter called the bat-earred fox (Otocyon megalotis). Not only is it cuddly and appealing, but its vernacular name appears to me to be doubly appropriate!

* Perot should pick his buddy Larry King to be his running mate. Together, they would add a little spice to what promises to be a long, dull political campaign.
