Death of Girl Found Under House Ruled a Homicide

The death of a South-Central Los Angeles toddler has officially been ruled a homicide by authorities, who have identified the child’s baby-sitter as the primary suspect.
Police were hoping to question the 56-year-old sitter Monday after her expected release from a mental clinic. The woman, whose name was not released, admitted herself to the facility Friday morning.
Responding to a missing person’s report made by the baby-sitter’s son, police found the body of Jaq Marie Pope in a crawl space under the woman’s Compton Avenue home Friday evening. An autopsy revealed that the 2-year-old died of a blow to the head, probably on Friday, police said.
The child was in the custody of her grandmother, who cared for her on weekends and left her with the baby-sitter during the week, according to police.
