Ventura County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday were searching for suspected gang members who stabbed a 14-year-old Moorpark teenager after yelling insulting remarks about Moorpark.
The teenager, whose name authorities had not released, was treated and released at Simi Valley Hospital for a stab wound to the back.
“I understand that there were not any vital organs that were hit,” said Det. Ernie Montagna.
Deputies said the teenager was walking in the 900 block of Old Los Angeles Avenue about 10 p.m. Tuesday when a gray van pulled up.
The van’s occupants shouted derogatory statements about Moorpark before they jumped out and began fighting with the teenager, deputies said.
“The words that were said is an indication that [the incident] is gang related,” Montagna said.
Deputies said one of the van occupants knifed the teenager before they got back in and fled. Investigators are urging anyone with information on the incident to call Montagna at 494-8266 or Crime Stoppers at 494-8255.
