Jaroslav Modry scored the game-winner in the third period and goaltender Stefane Fiset beat his former teammates as the Kings downed the Colorado Avalanche, 3-2, in Denver.
Fiset, who lost his starting job a year ago when the Avalanche acquired Patrick Roy, stopped 32 shots, while Vladimir Tsyplakov assisted on all three goals for the Kings (2-0).
Colorado (0-2) split the goaltending between Marc Denis and Brent Johnson as Roy was given the night off.
Rob Shearer gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead on a power play at 6:11 of the first period and Jason Morgan tied it 43 seconds later. Landon Wilson scored off a rebound for Colorado at 1:28 of the second period and Dimitri Khristich evened it with 23 seconds left in the period.
