Elway Improves in Practice

John Elway’s strained left hamstring was improved Wednesday, making it more likely he will play Sunday when the Denver Broncos play host to the Chicago Bears.
“He threw, but he also went through some three- and five-step drops, at half speed, and some of our game-plan routes,” Coach Mike Shanahan said.

Bengal offensive lineman Scott Brumfield was flown back to Cincinnati and admitted to a hospital to continue his recovery from a serious neck injury.
Brumfield injured his neck while making a block Sunday in a 24-21 victory at Baltimore. He has regained strength in his upper body but still has limited use of his legs.

Jacksonville right guard Brian DeMarco sprained his right knee in practice and will sit out Sunday’s game against Baltimore.

San Diego quarterback Stan Humphries should be able to start Monday night against Detroit despite a dislocated left shoulder.
