Residents Blame City for Toppled Trees
Fierce winds that lashed the San Fernando Valley this week and uprooted hundreds of trees have also generated a storm of complaints from homeowners who accuse the city of failing to maintain trees on its property.
Residents who contend that city trees caused damage to their property may file a claim with the Los Angeles city clerk’s office, said Ted Goldstein, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office.
“Obviously, people are still assessing the damage and trying to ascertain whether it was [caused] by a city street tree,” Goldstein said.
“The claims will be evaluated on their merit.”
Forms are available at the city clerk’s office in Van Nuys at 14401 Erwin St.
