Gonzalez Captures Title for Second-Place Ventura

Cristobal Gonzalez of Ventura High defeated Hyatt Moore of Dana Hills, 13-4, at 189 pounds to win the Southern Section Division I individual title Saturday night at Canyon Springs High.
Gonzalez improved his season record to 41-0 and Ventura qualified seven wrestlers for next week’s Southern Section Master’s meet.
Santa Ana Calvary Chapel won the team title with 293 1/2 points. Ventura finished second with 173 1/2.
Division IV finals--Highland won the team title with 180 points, narrowly defeating Glenn, which finished with 168.5 points, at Santiago High.
Stuart Young of Highland pinned Weslee Mattison of Quartz Hill at 3:05 to win the 145-pound title.
Jacob Waasdorp of Quartz Hill, the defending champion at 215 pounds, lost in double overtime in the final.
El Camino Real 35, San Fernando 25--Francisco Jordan defeated Juan Simiano at 145 pounds to help the Conquistadores (22-3) win the City Section dual-meet title.
Alex Luna of San Fernando pinned Orlando Vasquez in 1:34 in the heavyweight final.
