Brian Harris, 16, a junior at Cypress High School, has been named California’s top high school volunteer worker for 1977, school officials said.
Harris, the son of Smitty and Barbara Harris of Stanton, was honored this month at ceremonies at the high school.
Harris will go to national ceremonies in Washington, D.C., on May 3, where winners from all states will learn who has been picked as the U.S. titlist, Principal Tracy Brennan said.
“I am just so proud of Brian,” he said. “This young man is such a leader on campus.”
The principal said Harris’ volunteer work includes service for the Orange County Human Relations Commission and numerous speaking engagements to discuss interracial issues.
