Four Marines from Camp Pendleton have been honored with certificates of commendation from the Orange County Fire Authority for helping to contain a fire in Mission Viejo.
At a ceremony at Fire Station 31 in Mission Viejo, certificates went to Lance Corporal Justin Davis, 19; Lance Corporal John Thomas, 24; Lance Corporal Tony Holtz, 19; and Lance Corporal Tony Stephens, 20.
The four were cited for quick action in the early hours of Feb. 23 that saved a home from being consumed by flames and may have saved lives.
The four were returning to Camp Pendleton when they spotted a brush fire threatening a residence on Cancion Drive in Mission Viejo. Holtz and Stephens went into the home to alert the residents, while Davis and Thomas grabbed a garden hose and began fighting the blaze.
