Sylmar Starts Fast, Finishes Chatsworth

Nadine Traba pitched a six-hitter and Stephanie Asidilla had two doubles for Sylmar High in a 5-3 victory over Chatsworth on Tuesday in the first round of the City Section 4-A Division softball playoffs.
Traba (9-9) struck out four and had a run-scoring double during a three-run first inning for Sylmar (9-10). Asidilla had three hits and drove in a run with a double in the second inning. Kimberly Lopez also had three hits.
Chatsworth finished 12-8.
Granada Hills 2, Reseda 0--Amy Matthews (9-5) pitched a five-hitter, striking out nine, for the Highlanders (12-7) in a 4-A Division game at Granada Hills.
Amber Dattilo had two hits for Granada Hills. Reseda finished at 9-7.
Carson 4, San Fernando 2--Syria Hernandez hit a three-run homer in the first inning and added a solo homer in the fifth for the Colts in a 4-A game at Carson.
Alexandra Velasquez had two hits, including a two-run single that gave the Tigers (9-14) a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Michelle Raigoza and Sunshine Gallardo hit singles and scored on the hit by Velasquez.
San Pedro 3, Taft 0--Danielle Cabello had two of the Toreadors’ five hits in a 4-A game at Taft (8-8).
The Pirates (18-8) had nine hits against Andrea Sheaffer (7-7).
Westchester 9, North Hollywood 3--Marilyn Gutierrez, Ashley Fargeon and Robin Rolfe each drove in a run during a three-run fourth inning, but the Huskies fell in a 3-A game at Westchester.
North Hollywood (9-11) tied the score, 3-3, but Nydia Mejia (7-9) gave up a grand slam in the bottom of the inning.
Takui Karapogosyan had two hits, scored a run and stole two bases, and Fargeon finished with two hits for North Hollywood.
Roosevelt 13, Van Nuys 5--Jennifer Ramos had two hits, including a run-scoring triple, and scored twice but the Wolves (11-9) lost a 3-A game at Van Nuys.
Verdugo Hills 32, Manual Arts 0--The Dons collected 18 hits at Verdugo Hills in a 3-A game shortened to six innings. Gaby Robles had seven RBIs for the Dons (19-3).
Kim Wood drove in three runs and pitched a one-hitter.
