City Seeks Works for Annual ArtWalk

Ventura city officials are already on the prowl, seeking artists to display their works for the summer ArtWalk and Java Jump on July 26 from 6 to 10 p.m.

The ArtWalk and Java Jump is a self-led art tour through downtown Ventura businesses, galleries, museums and coffee shops. Some downtown coffeehouses will also offer coffee tasting.

During the ArtWalk, businesses temporarily host gallery exhibits. Usually the businesses seek out artists themselves, but the city is trying to get the creative community to take a more active role.

“This is just a call to artists to remind them that it’s coming up,” said Andrea Anderson, the city’s marketing specialist. “If they call us, we can match them up with a business.”

Artists may personally contact downtown merchants and view the space provided, or contact the city office of cultural affairs at 658-4768. The deadline for businesses to select an artist is June 3.
