It’s Official: Looks like Barbra Streisand’s next production will be a marriage. Her beau, James Brolin, has confirmed the couple’s engagement, telling talk-show host Rosie O’Donnell on Tuesday: “We have been married several times, according to what I’ve read. It’s time we got engaged.” Brolin, 56, said he proposed four or five times to Streisand, 55, before finding the right engagement ring in January. A Streisand representative said he didn’t expect any wedding details to be announced since “they are very private people.” It will be Streisand’s second marriage and Brolin’s third.

TELEVISION

New Queen of Talkdom?: Roseanne will base her upcoming five-day-a-week talk show--scheduled to premiere on daytime TV in the fall of 1998--in Los Angeles, the star announced Tuesday. King World, which also produces “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” will co-produce the syndicated series along with Roseanne’s own production company. King World Chairman Roger King said he had already received an “overwhelming response” to plans for the show and predicted that the program “will be among the biggest debuts in syndicated television history.”

Also Waiting in the Wings: ABC said Wednesday that it will get Barbara Walters’ new daytime talk and informational series, “The View,” on the air later this summer. Walters described the show, hosted by ABC News correspondent Meredith Viera, as “the conversations you’re already having with your neighbors, at the office water cooler or over a cup of coffee at home.” Walters is producing and will appear on the program about twice a week; other scheduled regulars are legal analyst Star Jones, MTV guest host Debbie Matenopoulos and comic Joy Behar.

‘Arsenio’s’ Fate: “Arsenio,” the ABC comedy starring former talk-show host Arsenio Hall that was yanked from the schedule this year after dismal ratings, was not mentioned when ABC announced its new fall lineup on Monday, but sources said the show has not been officially canceled. The network is still waiting to see a new concept and pilot for a Hall vehicle from producer DreamWorks SKG. Hall has admitted in interviews that “Arsenio,” which featured him as a sportswriter, was not working and the network was correct in taking it off the air. Sources said the development of a new Hall show is “fairly active,” and its fate should be determined in the next few months.

Head of the ‘Class’: Faye Dunaway will bring her portrayal of Maria Callas in Terrence McNally’s “Master Class” to the Doolittle Theatre in Hollywood, from June 20 (first preview) to July 13. Dunaway hasn’t appeared on a Los Angeles stage since she played Blanche DuBois at the Ahmanson Theatre in 1973, though she came close in 1994, when her dismissal as the would-be replacement for Glenn Close in “Sunset Boulevard” precipitated the closing of the production. Dunaway and the rest of the touring production of “Master Class” stop at San Diego Civic Theatre next week, opening Tuesday.

Three New Grammys: Acknowledging the growing importance of dance music in the pop world, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences has created new Grammy Award categories for best dance recording and re-mixer of the year. Also added was a Latin alternative rock album award, bringing to 92 the number of Grammys that will be presented next year.

Spin Control: The Spin Doctors won their suit against Miller Brewing Co. Tuesday when a federal jury in Los Angeles found the beer company liable for copyright infringement for using a song “substantially similar” to the group’s hit “Two Princes” in a 1995 commercial for Miller Lite Ice. The trial’s damages phase starts today; the rock group’s attorney said he will ask for $11.5 million.

A woman who repeatedly trespasses at Michael Jackson’s Neverland ranch near Santa Barbara and has tried to portray herself as Jackson’s wife remained in jail Tuesday after she forced her way into his mansion Sunday and punched a housekeeper, authorities said. The arrest was the eighth at Neverland for Lavon Muhammed, 49. . . . John Thall, former executive vice president of corporate operations of the Planet Hollywood chain, has been named president of the Sunset Strip nightclub Billboard Live, following speculation in recent weeks about major changes for the club, including a possible relocation. Thall was not available for comment Tuesday, but a club spokesman said a major announcement will be made in “coming weeks.” . . . Jay Leno will celebrate his fifth anniversary as host of “The Tonight Show” by holding two Internet chats this week, today at 6:30 p.m. and Friday at 10:30 a.m., both at https://www.NBC.com. . . . Martin Lawrence pleaded innocent Monday to a misdemeanor battery charge filed by a man who claims the actor punched him in March after the two bumped into each other on the dance floor at the Gate nightclub. A June 30 hearing is scheduled.
