Hay Is Not Ducks’ Pick Any Longer

Former Phoenix coach Don Hay has apparently dropped out of the running to become the Mighty Ducks’ new coach after a lackluster second interview with General Manager Jack Ferreira and team President Tony Tavares.

Hay was considered the leading contender to replace Ron Wilson, but Ferreira said Monday his search for a new coach has stalled.

“I believe I have a solution,” said Ferreira, who declined to say who has moved to the top of his wish-list. “[But] I can honestly tell you nothing is going to happen until July 1. Nothing is going to get done this week or next.”

Ferreira leaves on a red-eye flight tonight for the NHL awards dinner Thursday in Toronto, then heads to the NHL draft Saturday in Pittsburgh. Next week, he and Tavares will be traveling on the Ducks’ fan cruise in the Caribbean.
